Changing migration rates in England and Wales over a 40‐year period: Is mobility declining?

چکیده
Research using data for the United States has pointed towards a long-term pattern of falling migration rates. Similar research in England and Wales also found declining rates when observing all migrants. Using Office National Statistics Longitudinal Study (ONS LS), we study patterns observed over 10-year periods persons birth cohorts each intercensal period from 1971–1981 through to 2001–2011. When sample population is considered as whole, results LS are consistent with earlier findings: There been decade-on-decade decline rate longitudinal data. disaggregated by cohort, it apparent that this not always young adults, but consistently those their 30s older, whom successive cohort lower than previous one there steady within-cohort time. This at both short longer distances move. Alternative censuses looking single years do appear confirm migration, although collection processing issues may be part explanation finding, case these more subject cyclical effects.

Changing Family Size in England and Wales
This volume is an important study in demographic history. It draws on the individual returns from the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses of England and Wales, to which Garrett, Reid, Schürer and Szreter were permitted access ahead of scheduled release dates. Using the responses of the inhabitants of 13 communities to the special questions included in the 1911 ‘fertility’ census, they consider the int...
متن کاملEpidemiology of parainfluenza virus type 3 in England and Wales over a ten-year period.
We have analysed data on respiratory syncytial (RS) and parainfluenza type 3 (PF3) viruses reported to the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre, London, over the period 1978-87. These confirm the annual winter epidemic of RS virus and show that, in England and Wales, PF3 is a summer infection with regular yearly epidemics.
متن کاملDetecting changing river temperatures in England and Wales
Changes in water temperature can have important consequences for aquatic ecosystems, with some species being sensitive even to small shifts in temperature during some or all of their life cycle. While many studies report increasing regional and global air temperatures, evidence of changes in river water temperature has, thus far, been site specific and often from sites heavily influenced by hum...
متن کاملChanging Pattern of Human Listeriosis, England and Wales, 2001–2004
Microbiologic and epidemiologic data on 1,933 cases of human listeriosis reported in England and Wales from 1990 to 2004 were reviewed. A substantial increase in incidence occurred from 2001 to 2004. Ten clusters (60 cases), likely to represent common-source outbreaks, were detected. However, these clusters did not account for the upsurge in incidence, which occurred sporadically, predominantly...
متن کاملChanging Patterns of Human Campylobacteriosis, England and Wales, 1990–2007
To explore hypotheses for age-related changes in the incidence of Campylobacter infections in England and Wales during 1990-2007, we analyzed electronic laboratory data. Disease incidence was reduced among children, and the greatest increase in risk was for those >/=60 years of age. Risk factors for campylobacteriosis in the elderly population should be identified.
