Changes in Spinal-Reflex Excitability during Static Stretch and/or Explosive Contraction

چکیده

To examine individual or combined effects of static stretch and explosive contraction on quadriceps spinal-reflex excitability (the peak Hoffmann’s reflex normalized by the motor-response) latency times motor-response. Fourteen healthy young males randomly experienced four conditions (stretch, contraction, + control—no intervention). For condition, three sets a 30 s hold using modified Thomas test each leg were performed. trials maximal countermovement vertical jump Quadriceps latent period value right compared at pre- post-condition. All measurement values across not changed any time point (condition × time) in (F6,143 = 1.10, p 0.36), 0.45, 0.84), motor-response 0.37, 0.90), heights (F2,65 1.82, 0.17). A statistical trend was observed condition that increased 42% (effect size: 0.63). Neither nor excitability, reflex, Since our protocol did affect jumping performance induced post-activation potentiation effect, either could be used as pre-exercise activity.

Changes in spinal reflex excitability associated with motor sequence learning.

There is ample evidence that motor sequence learning is mediated by changes in brain activity. Yet the question of whether this form of learning elicits changes detectable at the spinal cord level has not been addressed. To date, studies in humans have revealed that spinal reflex activity may be altered during the acquisition of various motor skills, but a link between motor sequence learning a...

H reflex and spinal excitability: methodological considerations.

The Hoffmann reflex has been the tool most commonly used in exercise studies to investigate modulations in spinal excitability. However, the evolution of electromyographic responses with the increase in stimulation intensity has rarely been assessed when the muscle is active. The purpose of this study was thus to identify that part of the recruitment curve at which the investigation of the Hoff...

Changes in spinal excitability during choice reaction time: the H reflex as a probe of information transmission.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the modulations in amplitude of H reflexes elicited in a hand muscle, the flexor pollicis brevis, during the performance of a choice reaction time (RT) task in which this muscle was directly involved. Ten subjects were to choose between a left- or a right-thumb key-press according to the lateral location of a flash of light. The stimulus-response ...

Effect of contraction level and magnitude of stretch on tonic stretch reflex transmission characteristics.

Electromyogram tonic stretch reflex responses were recorded from biceps brachii muscles in normal and cerebral palsied subjects sustaining either 10% or 20% of maximum voluntary contraction and attempting to keep the elbow stiff in a fixed position. The muscle was stretch by a sinusoidal perturbation applied by the experimenter to the elbow angle. Five different amplitudes of stretch were emplo...

Changes in spinal excitability after PAS.

Repetitive pairing of a peripheral stimulation with a magnetic transcortical stimulation (PAS) is widely used to induce plastic changes in the human motor cortex noninvasively. Based on the contrast between PAS-induced increase of corticospinal excitability and absence of PAS-induced increase of the spinal F wave size, it has been generally accepted that PAS-induced plasticity is cortical in or...
