Challenges to Implementing Environmental-DNA Monitoring in Namibia

نویسندگان

چکیده

By identifying fragments of DNA in the environment, eDNA approaches present a promising tool for monitoring biodiversity cost-effective way. This is particularly pertinent countries where traditional morphological has been sparse. The first step to realising potential develop methodologies that are adapted local conditions. Here, we test field and laboratory protocols (aqueous sediment samples) range semi-arid ecosystems Namibia. We successfully gathered data on broad suite organisms at multiple trophic levels (including algae, invertebrates bacteria) but identified two key challenges implementation methods region: 1) high turbidity requires tailored sampling technique 2) identification taxa by currently constrained lack reference data. hope this work will guide deployment biomonitoring arid Namibia neighbouring countries.

Implementing the Nursing Process in Gynaecology Wards in Namibia

Since its implementation in 1985, the nursing process in Namibia – for unknown reasons – had been utilised with difficulty. The purpose of this paper is to describe the development of a programme to operationalise the nursing process in gynaecology wards in Namibia. A qualitative, explorative, descriptive and contextual design was used to perform this study. Seven in-depth interviews were condu...

‏‎comprehension monitoring in l1&l2‎‏

Monitoring endangered freshwater biodiversity using environmental DNA.

Freshwater ecosystems are among the most endangered habitats on Earth, with thousands of animal species known to be threatened or already extinct. Reliable monitoring of threatened organisms is crucial for data-driven conservation actions but remains a challenge owing to nonstandardized methods that depend on practical and taxonomic expertise, which is rapidly declining. Here, we show that a di...

Environmental challenges to color constancy

Theories of human color constancy have been based on experiments with relatively simple laboratory stimuli. Even recent “nearly natural” stimuli are optically much simpler than natural visual environments. I review here some of the complexity of natural visual environments. I argue that several kinds of optical structure exploited by theories of human color constancy may not occur in most natur...
