چکیده

In February and March 2022, the eastern coast of Australia recorded an unprecedented amount precipitation with extended floods damages to properties amounting at least AUD 2.3 billions. this paper we use both reanalysis observations perform a statistical dynamical attribution event climate change. We define 1948-1977 as counterfactual period 1990-2019 factual one. The is based on fitting generalized extreme value distribution for 3-days averaged annual maxima two periods, while aims looking recurrence sea-level pressure geopotential height patterns in periods. find that dynamics consists combination several factors: tropical atmospheric river, presence Coral low system blocking anticyclone offshore Eastern Australia. Our main finding no clear statements can be made, because nature event, lack long high quality available data dependence results La Nina phase El Nino Southern Oscillation.

Detecting and attributing Australian climate change: a review

Climate has always varied. In Australia, the impact of the El Niño – Southern Oscillation on variations in rainfall over centuries has been documented (e.g. Nicholls 1988, 1989). Other natural, internal processes also affect climate on different time-scales.
