Challenges and priorities for river cetacean conservation

چکیده
River cetaceans are particularly vulnerable to anthropogenic impacts due their constrained ranges in freshwater systems of China, South Asia, and America. We undertook an exhaustive review 280 peer-reviewed papers grey literature reports (1998-2020) examine the current status knowledge regarding these conservation. aimed better understand scale threats they face, identify propose priority future efforts conserve species. found that species have been studied with varying frequency most research on has focused habitat degradation fragmentation (43%, mainly driven by dams extractive activities such as sand mining deforestation), fishery interactions (39%, form bycatch direct take). These occur across all species, but more information is needed, primarily quantifying population a basis for designing mitigation measures. Other identified include pollution, vessel collisions, traditional use, poorly managed tourism. Emerging methods environmental DNA unmanned aerial vehicles described studying Promising conservation interventions cetacean-specific protected areas, natural ex situ protection, community-led conservation, education programmes. However, transnational political will required step change towards broad-scale protection environments. In addition, we increasing capacity building, developing management plans, working closely fishing communities, enhancing public awareness, expanding regional collaborations, diversifying funding.

Challenges and Priorities in Shark and Ray Conservation.
Sharks, rays, and chimaeras (Class Chondrichthyes; herein 'sharks') are the earliest extant jawed vertebrates and exhibit some of the greatest functional diversity of all vertebrates. Ecologically, they influence energy transfer vertically through trophic levels and sometimes trophic cascades via direct consumption and predation risk. Through movements and migrations, they connect horizontally ...

15 صفحه اولDistribution patterns of Convolvulaceae in Iran: priorities for conservation
Assessing priorities is the most important action in conservation programs. Rudimentary, mapping of diversity, and distribution patterns have been used to set priorities on diverse scales. The distribution patterns of plant taxa, largely reflect an actual ecological niche. Convolvulaceae s.str exhibits cosmopolitan dispersal of diverse life forms and includes 50–60 genera comprising 1600–1700 s...
متن کاملConservation planning and priorities
Maybe the first law of conservation science should be that human population—which of course drives both threats to biodiversity and its conservation—is distributed unevenly around the world (Cincotta et al. 2000). This parallels a better-known first law of biodiversity science, that biodiversity itself is also distributed unevenly (Gaston 2000; Chapter 2). Were it not for these two patterns, co...
