Cetaceans Sightings During Research Cruises in Three Remote Atlantic British Overseas Territories

Marine mammal sightings were recorded during research cruises to three remote, mid-ocean British Overseas Territories in the South Atlantic and Southern Ocean. In March April 2018 2019, Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) of tropical St Helena temperate Tristan da Cunha surveyed. The sub-polar waters Georgia Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) surveyed February 2019. At 2018, five species 11 sightings, four species, with one additional unidentified seven sightings. Most these dolphin which are known be resident around Island seamounts. a total identified six half associated or due rough weather, no waters. Around SGSSI, 162 236 cetaceans made mostly baleen whales, certainty. Sightings southern included beaked whales large dolphins, whereas dominated northern Islands. These results provide new data for rarely regions, helping build spatial picture important areas marine mammals, will help inform protection strategies.
