Centrifugal Model Test and Simulation of Geogrid Reinforced Backfill and EPS Interlayer on Bridge Abutment

In this paper, the use of geotechnical centrifuge and numerical modeling techniques to investigate influence geogrid reinforcement EPS interlayer on lateral earth pressure backfill surface settlements behind gravity abutment pile-supported is reported. According principle equal strain, back structure, foundation, material, grid material were simulated, centrifugal model test for two types abutments was carried out with a scale n = 62.5, 40, respectively. The tests showed that could reduce settlement abutment. After setting interlayer, displacement be eliminated, significantly reduced. “interlayer + geogrid” structure further reduced back. existence adjusted strain distribution reinforced increasing near abutment, which conducive effect. above research conclusions provide basis design practical application materials.
