Cell Factory for Phenylnaphthacenoid Polyketide Production

Covering 2009–2022. Phenylnaphthacenoid polyketides have gained significant interest in recent years owing to their potent antibacterial and anticancer activities. Notably, more than 100 members of this class natural products been discovered from various Streptomyces species by different research groups including ours over the last 13 years. This review summarizes current knowledge discovery, chemical diversity, bioactivity phenylnaphthacenoid polyketides. The also highlights cell factory for production: (1) native strains, (2) mutant (3) heterologous expression, (4) biocatalytic halogenations. Furthermore, challenges future opportunities are presented as a guide researchers explore them purposefully.
