Catheter-based endomyocardial injection with real-time magnetic resonance imaging.
BACKGROUND We tested the feasibility of targeted left ventricular (LV) mural injection using real-time MRI (rtMRI). METHODS AND RESULTS A 1.5T MRI scanner was customized with a fast reconstruction engine, transfemoral guiding catheter-receiver coil (GCC), MRI-compatible needle, and tableside consoles. Commercial real-time imaging software was customized to facilitate catheter navigation and v...
متن کاملTargeted endomyocardial biopsy guided by real-time cardiovascular magnetic resonance
BACKGROUND Endomyocardial biopsies (EMB) are an important diagnostic tool for myocarditis and other infiltrative cardiac diseases. Routinely, biopsies are obtained under fluoroscopic guidance with a substantial radiation burden. Despite procedural success, there is a large sampling error caused by missing the affected myocardium. Therefore, multiple (>6) biopsies are taken in the clinical setti...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the feasibility of targeting various areas of left ventricle myocardium under real time magnetic resonance (MR) imaging with a customised injection catheter equipped with a miniaturised coil. DESIGN A needle injection catheter with a mounted resonant solenoid circuit (coil) at its tip was designed and constructed. A 1.5 T MR scanner with customised real time sequence ...
متن کاملReal-time magnetic resonance imaging guidance improves the yield of endomyocardial biopsy
Background In current practice, the diagnostic yield of endomyocardial biopsy is low because the procedure is performed ‘blind’ using X-ray fluoroscopy guidance and because many pathologies affect the myocardium in a patchy distribution. We hypothesized that biopsy performed under direct realtime MRI guidance would have superior diagnostic yield, in an animal model of focal myocardium pathology.
