Case report: Primary hyperparathyroidism due to mediastinal parathyroid adenoma

چکیده
Primary hyperparathyroidism is defined by elevated parathyroid hormone and calcium levels, most usually caused a adenoma. Parathyroid adenomas are commonly detected in the neck or an ectopic site, seldom mediastinum. The adenoma can occur locations such as mediastinum, thymus, retro oesophagal area 6-16% of cases. We presented example 73-year-old woman who was found to have hypercalcemia during regular test. patient’s serum (3.11 mmol/L), alkaline phosphatase (162 U/L), (PTH: 379 pg/mL) creatinine (111.6 umol/L) levels were higher than reference values. A chest computerized tomography scan revealed anterior mediastinal mass, nuclear scintigraphy functioning tissue effectively removed surgically, PTH level began fall. Any high absence should prompt clinicians look for sites using mix imaging modalities.

Case Report Mediastinal Parathyroid Adenoma causing primary Hyperparathyroidism
An ectopically placed parathyroid adenoma in the anterior mediastinum is a rare cause of persistent or recurrent primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and is recognized as an important cause of failed primary neck exploration. We encountered 3 such cases amongst 70 surgically treated patients with PHPT (4.3%) over a 20-year period. In 2 cases, the offending adenoma could be removed at first explor...

METHODS We diagnosed and operated 54 patients with primary hyperparathyroidism in the Faculty of Medicine, Gazi University, Turkey from January 2000 to December 2004. In this study, 52 (96.2%) of these patients who had parathyroid adenoma were retrospectively evaluated. RESULTS There were 46...
متن کاملGestational Primary Hyperparathyroidism Due to Ectopic Parathyroid Adenoma: Case Report and Literature Review
Gestational primary hyperparathyroidism (GPHPT) is a rare condition with fewer than 200 cases reported. We present the case of a 21-year-old woman who presented at 10 weeks' gestation with severe hypercalcemia. Laboratory investigation was consistent with primary hyperparathyroidism. Neck ultrasound did not reveal any parathyroid enlargement. Due to the persistence of severe hypercalcemia, she ...

BACKGROUND Primary hyperparathyroidism is a rare disease characterized by excessive secretion of parathyroid hormone from parathyroid adenoma, hyperplasia, or malignancy. The clinical symptoms of the condition are those of hypercalcemia. Although the lesions are commonly located in the neck region, in about 1-2 % of cases, the lesions are ectopically located within the mediastinum, where surgic...
