Abstract The difficulty of getting a correct distribution the reinforcement in metal matrix and complexity for achieving good-metallurgy matrix-reinforcement bonding has limited development additive manufacturing composites. This research proposes use reactive atmosphere during fabrication process to obtain titanium composites reinforced with TiN. relation between carrying gas parameters used presence porous defects, microstructure, microhardness been obtained. Nitrogen was as powder. Under laser irradiation, particles melt react nitrogen, resulting formation composite highly obtained had increase 50 100% comparison samples fabricated same conditions an argon atmosphere. Three reaction mechanisms have proposed take place depending on amount nitrogen particles, its diffusion them manufacture. Graphic abstract
