Carbonate precipitation, U-series dating and Uisotopic variations in a Holocene travertine platform at Bad Langensalza - Thuringia Basin, Germany

چکیده
A fossil remain of porcupine, a large-sized rodent hitherto unknown in Portugal, was identified during the 2010-13 excavation Last Interglacial deposit Figueira Brava cave. The specimen is left hemimandible retaining PM/4 to M/2 series but lacking incisor and M/3. Based on analysis its morphological odontometric features, we assign Hystrix cristata (Linnaeus, 1758). Nowadays, H. found Africa as well as, recently introduced, Italy. Most Late Pleistocene occurrences genus are assigned species (Acanthion) vinogradovi but, demonstrated by discovered Brava, once existed Europe.

U-Th dating of carbonate platform and slope sediments
—Absolute chronology of marine sediment beyond the C age range provides a test for models of climate change and has many other applications. U-Th techniques have been used for such chronology by dating corals, but extending these techniques to marine sediment is complicated by the presence of significant initial Th—both in detrital material and scavenged from seawater. In this study, we investi...
متن کاملTreatment and assessment of the CO2-exchange at a complex forest site in Thuringia, Germany
Eddy covariance measurements were carried out at the Wetzstein site in Thuringia, Germany since December 2001. Soon after the start of the measurements night-time fluxes well above average CO2-fluxes measured in temperate forest ecosystems were detected which could not be explained by biological processes but were valid with respect to standard quality criteria. The Wetzstein site is part of th...
متن کاملPrimary U distribution in scleractinian corals and its implications for U series dating
[1] In this study we use microsampling techniques to explore diagenetic processes in carbonates. These processes are important as they can affect the accuracy of U series chronometry. Fission track maps of deep-sea scleractinian corals show a threefold difference between the minimum and maximum [U] in modern corals, which is reduced to a factor of 2 in fossil corals. We use micromilling and MC-...
متن کاملBa , Ra , Th , and U in marine mollusc shells and the potential of 226 Ra / Ba dating of Holocene marine carbonate shells
The geochemistry of Ba, Ra, Th, and U and the potential of using Ra/Ba ratios as an alternative dating method are explored in modern and Holocene marine mollusc shells. Five modern shells of the Antarctic scallop Adamussium colbecki collected from the present day beach and six radiocarbon dated specimens from Holocene beach terraces of the Ross Sea region (Antarctic) between 700 and 6100 calibr...
متن کاملBasalt sills of the U reflector, Newfoundland Basin: A serendipitous dating technique
High core recovery at Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Leg 210, Site 1276, provided a high-resolution porosity-depth relationship and an equally impressive age-depth model based on first and last occurrences of microfossils. Site 1276 was drilled over transitional crust in the Newfoundland nonvolcanic margin, offshore Canada, between known continental crust on the west and apparent oceanic crust on...
