Carbon Nanotubes as an Alternative to Copper Wires in Electrical Machines: A Review

The surge in electric vehicles (EVs) and their electrical appliances requires highly efficient, lightweight machines with better performance. However, conventional wire used for machine windings have certain limits to the current requirements. Copper is a commonly material windings, due its ohmic resistance, it causes 75% of total losses (copper losses). high mass copper results bulky system size, winding temperature always maintained at less than 150 °C preserve thermal insulation windings. On other hand, carbon nanotubes nanotube materials superior conductivity properties mechanical properties. Carbon ensure 100 MS/m conductivity, which higher 59.6 MS/m. In literature, various been studied based on co-efficient resistivity, thickness strength, insulation, efficiency materials. Here, we review nanotubes, composite are reviewed wires.
