Capture Order Across Social Bathyergids Indicates Similarities in Division of Labour and Spatial Organisation

چکیده

The social mole-rats of the family Bathyergidae show elaborate organisation that may include division labour between breeders and non-breeders as well across within their groups. However, comparative behavioural data taxa are rare contrasts similarities species poorly understood. Field studies bathyergids usually involve capturing all group members until entire is captured. Because each animal only captured once traps typically placed in close proximity to active foraging areas, order which animals provides an indication activity different individuals spatial burrow system. Here, we compare association capture with breeding status, sex, body mass four subspecies bathyergids, vary size represent three genera Bathyergidae. We naked Damaraland ( Heterocephalus glaber Fukomys damarensis ), male female later than non-breeders, whereas two genus Cryptomys non-breeders. effect sizes largely 10 times larger compared 3–4 . Among sex effects notably absent predicted both mole-rats. In mole-rats, were earlier smaller ones, intermediate-sized first. Our suggest there structure bathyergid species, though most pronounced differences groups found

The Division of Labour, Worker Organisation, and Technological Change

The Division of Labour, Worker Organisation, and Technological Change The model developed in this paper explains differences in the division of labour across firms as a result of computer technology adoption. We find that changes in the division of labour can result both from reduced production time and from improved communication possibilities. The first shifts the division of labour towards a...

Ecology, evolution and division of labour in social insects

Caste and division of labour have formed the core of the study of the organization of insect societies for the past four decades. Indeed, the description and analysis of task allocation between colony members are fundamental to understanding the organization of a complex biological system whose functioning depends upon the behavioural integration of a potentially large number of individuals. Re...

Social Inhibition Manages Division of Labour in Artificial Swarm Systems

This paper presents a novel and bio-inspired algorithm for distributed division of labour in swarms of artificial agents (e.g., autonomous underwater vehicles). The algorithm is inspired by division of labour via local interactions in social insects. The algorithm is successfully implemented in virtual agents and simulated robot swarms and demonstrates a high adaptivity in response to changes i...

Asymmetry within social groups: division of labour and intergroup competition

Social animals vary in their ability to compete with group members over shared resources and also vary in their cooperative efforts to produce these resources. Competition among groups can promote within-group cooperation, but many existing models of intergroup cooperation do not explicitly account for observations that group members invest differentially in cooperation and that there are often...
