Beyond Captions: Linking Figures with Abstract Sentences in Biomedical Articles
Although figures in scientific articles have high information content and concisely communicate many key research findings, they are currently under utilized by literature search and retrieval systems. Many systems ignore figures, and those that do not typically only consider caption text. This study describes and evaluates a fully automated approach for associating figures in the body of a bio...
متن کاملFigures of merit for color scanners
In the design and evaluation of color scanners and cameras, it is useful to have a single figure of merit that closely agrees with perceived color accuracy. In the past, several measures of goodness for color scanning filters have been proposed to fulfil such a requirement. Most of the proposed measures have had shortcomings in that they are either based on error metrics in color spaces that ar...
متن کاملFigures of Merit for True - Color Image - Intensified Cameras
Figures of Merit (FOMs) are presented that quantify the relative range, color-based contrast, and color fidelity of color image intensified (night vision) systems. These FOMs allow for objective comparisons of differing color camera systems and are particularly useful for designing and optimizing True-Color Image-Intensified (TC-I2) cameras and associated color mixing and image processing algor...
متن کاملLooking Beyond Text: Extracting Figures, Tables and Captions from Computer Science Papers
Identifying and extracting figures and tables along with their captions from scholarly articles is important both as a way of providing tools for article summarization, and as part of larger systems that seek to gain deeper, semantic understanding of these articles. While many “off-the-shelf” tools exist that can extract embedded images from these documents, e.g. PDFBox, Poppler, etc., these to...

We report the high frequency performance of GaAs/AlGaAs multiple quantum well (MQW) based AsymmetricFabry Perot (ASFP) reflection modulator. The measured frequency response bandwidth of the modulator was ~600 MHz at an applied voltage of only 5 V at a wavelength of ~ 854 nm. The differential contrast of the modula-tor was 4.0 at an applied voltage of 12.5 at a wavelength of 863 nm.
