Capacity constraints as a trigger for high growth

چکیده

Abstract High-growth enterprises (HGEs) have a large economic impact but are notoriously hard to predict. Previous research has linked high-growth episodes the configuration of lumpy indivisible resources inside firms, such that high capacity utilisation levels might stimulate future growth. We theorize firms reaching critically reach “trigger point” involving either broad-based investment in further growth or shrinking back previous levels. analyze EIBIS survey data (matched ORBIS) which features question on time-varying utilisation. Overcapacity is transitory state. Firms enter into overcapacity after period rapid sales and profits, years surrounding higher employment rates. operating at make incremental investments (e.g. expansion, process improvements modern machinery) rather than investing R&D new product development. find support for “fork road” hypothesis: some associated with launching massive subsequent growth, while other negatively related both

A stochastic model for operating room planning under uncertainty and equipment capacity constraints

In the present economic context, the operating theater is considered as a critical activity in health care management. This paper describes a model for operating room (OR) planning under constraint of a unique equipment. At first level we schedule elective surgeries under the uncertainty of using a unique equipment. At the second level we consider emergency surgeries, and at the third le...

States and economic growth: Capacity and constraints

State capacity has become one of the most discussed concepts in development economics and political economy. In this survey we argue that the study of economic history provides vital insights into the process through which modern states have acquired ‘state capacity’. By evaluating the process of state building across a range of different countries in Europe and Asia, we are able to ‘decompress...

High capacity associative memories and connection constraints

High capacity associative neural networks can be built from networks of perceptrons, trained using simple perceptron training. Such networks perform much better than those trained using the standard Hopfield one shot Hebbian learning. An experimental investigation into how such networks perform when the connection weights are not free to take any value is reported. The three restrictions invest...

Oligopoly with Capacity Constraints and Thresholds

Abstract   Extended Oligopoly models will be introduced and examined in which the firms might face capacity limits, thresholds for minimal and maximal moves, and antitrust thresholds in the case of partial cooperation. Similar situation occurs when there is an additional cost of output adjustment, which is discontinuous at zero due to set-up costs. In these cases the payoff functions of the...

High -density lipoprotein cholesterol as a predictor for diabetes mellitus

Background: Diabetes is a prevalent chronic disease around the world. To evaluate risk of diabetes comprehensively, we developed a score model for the risk prediction with HDL-C as a protective factor. Methods: We extracted physical examination data of 2728 individuals. The data contain 18 demographic and clinical variables. To identify the statistical significant feature variables, the backwa...
