Can We Retrieve Sea Surface Salinity with Polarimetric Radar Measurements?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sea Surface Salinity (SSS) is measured operationaly with Radiometers (e.g. SMOS) a resolution from 25 to 40 km. In this contribution, we theoretically evaluate Radar sensitivity SSS, especially focus on SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) due their intrinsic high-resolution imaging capabilities. This work focuses firstly the variations of dielectric properties seawater salinity at different frequency bands (P-, L- and C-bands) then consequences both Normalized Cross Section (NRCS) Copolar Phase Difference (CPD). The main challenge disentangle surface roughness contribution in backscattered signals. line literature, results show that NRCS increases decreasing operating frequency. addition, present new theoretical CPD have not been explored existing literature.

Can we use weather radar to retrieve volcanic ash eruption clouds? A model and experimental analysis
Real-time areal mapping of a volcanic eruption, in terms of its intensity and dynamics, is usually not possible by conventional visual inspection, especially during poor visibility expected in those circumstances (Barberi et al., 1990). In order to monitor ash cloud patterns, aircraft observations have a limited value, due to their nonsystematic nature and inherent hazards for flights within an...
متن کاملPolarimetric Radar Imaging of the Ocean Surface
Introduction: Understanding the relationship between ocean surface waves and the radar backscatter they generate is key to the development of new radar-based techniques to measure ocean parameters, such as wave height and current speed and direction, of importance to both the Navy and the civilian sector. This knowledge is also needed to improve the Navy’s ability to distinguish between signals...
متن کاملsea target detection in polarimetric synthetic aperture radar images
study on polsar target detection essentially requires the cattering information and polarimetric statistical data. theoretical analysis shows that some terms of the second order scattering matrices such as coherence and covariance matrix clearly show the differences between nonsymmetrical man-made objects and natural clatters which being reflection symmetric. using the model derived from these ...
متن کاملCombined Doppler and Polarimetric Radar Measurements: Correction for Spectrum Aliasing and Nonsimultaneous Polarimetric Measurements
Combining Doppler and polarimetric information is advantageous for atmospheric studies. On the one hand, Doppler information gives insight into the microphysical and dynamic properties of radar targets, that is, radial velocity and its variability. The polarization diversity, on the other hand, has a strong link to the microphysical properties of targets such as shape and orientation. Polarimet...
