چکیده
Purpose: Systemic doxycycline has been prescribed to reduce inflammation and enhance corneal healing in bacterial keratitis. Topical autologous serum drops (ASD) containing following oral supplementation may additionally confer an anti-bacterial effect. The potential of this was evaluated by determining the vitro susceptibility keratitis isolates doxycycline. Methods: minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) against 100 were determined using Etests. Twenty-seven Staphylococcus aureus, ten coagulase-negative Staphylococci, six Streptococcus pneumoniae, seven viridans group streptococci, other Gram-positive bacteria, nineteen Pseudomonas aeruginosa, eight Serratia marcescens, four Moraxella spp., two Haemophilus Gram-negative bacteria tested. MICs compared a standard concentration (SSCD) 4 µg/mL that would be found 50% 20% component clinical preparations ASD, corresponding SSCD (2 µg/mL) (0.8 µg/mL), respectively. equal or less than these values used deem isolate susceptible. Results: For susceptibilities SSCD, 86%, 65%, 60%, 37.2%, 23.3%, 11.6%, Chi-squared analyses comparing showed significantly greater at all three tested (<0.0001, <0.0001, <0.0001). Conclusions: Our data suggest theoretic provide additional effect treatment keratitis, especially for

Can serum procalcitonin measurement help monitor the treatment of acute bacterial meningitis? A prospective study
Background: Previous studies have demonstrated the value of serum procalcitonin (PCT) as a marker of bacterial infection, as well as the rapid decrease in its concentration with appropriate antibiotic treatment. The aim of this study was to determine the variation in serum PCT levels over time during the treatment of acute bacterial meningitis (ABM) in adults. Methods: In this prospective analy...

متن کاملRole of steroids in the treatment of bacterial keratitis
Bacterial keratitis can lead to severe visual impairment from corneal ulceration, subsequent scarring, and possible perforation. The mainstay of treatment is topical antibiotics, whereas the use of adjunctive topical corticosteroid drops remains a matter of debate. Herein, we review the rationale for and against the use of topical corticosteroids and we assess their effectiveness and safety in ...

Background: Recently the role of platelets in the tissue regeneration, wound healing and prevention and control of infections has been reported. We aimed to assess the antimicrobial effect of human platelet concentrate against six bacteria, commonly found in wound and hospital-acquired infections. Methods: In vitro susceptibility to samples of 10 random human platelet concentrates was determin...
