چکیده

Abstract Conservation biological control could be an alternative to insecticides for the management of aphid Myzus persicae (Sulzer). To develop sustainable strategies M. in peach orchards Mediterranean, a 2-yr field experiment was conducted identify key predators aphid; determine whether proximity insectary plants boost natural enemies comparison resident vegetation; and selected enhance enemy populations margins orchards. Aphidoletes aphidimyza Rondani (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) Episyrphus balteatus De Geer Syrphidae) were most abundant found among sentinel colonies, accounting 57% 26%, respectively. Samplings during 2015 yielded twice as many hoverflies close those vegetation. The abundance other plants, depending on their not significantly different either 2 yr. Hoverflies hovered more often over than vegetation landed Lobularia maritima (L.) Desv., Moricandia arvensis DC., Sinapis alba L. (Brassicales: Brassicaceae) Achillea millefollium (Asterales: Compositae). Parasitoids A. millefollium. vicinity improve presence hoverflies, which might benefit persicae.

Insecticide Resistance Mechanisms in the Green Peach Aphid Myzus persicae (Hemiptera: Aphididae) II: Costs and Benefits

BACKGROUND Among herbivorous insects that have exploited agro-ecosystems, the peach-potato aphid, Myzus persicae, is recognized as one of the most important agricultural pests worldwide. Uses over 400 plant species and has evolved different insecticides resistance mechanisms. As M. persicae feeds upon a huge diversity of hosts, it has been exposed to a wide variety of plant allelochemicals, whi...

Insecticide Resistance Mechanisms in the Green Peach Aphid Myzus persicae (Hemiptera: Aphididae) I: A Transcriptomic Survey

BACKGROUND Insecticide resistance is one of the best examples of rapid micro-evolution found in nature. Since the development of the first synthetic insecticide in 1939, humans have invested considerable effort to stay ahead of resistance phenotypes that repeatedly develop in insects. Aphids are a group of insects that have become global pests in agriculture and frequently exhibit insecticide r...

Aphid (Hemiptera: Aphididae) species composition and potential aphid vectors of plum pox virus in Pennsylvania peach orchards.

Plum pox, an invasive disease recently identified in Pennsylvania stone fruit orchards, is caused by the aphid-transmitted Plum pox virus (genus Potyvirus, family Potyviridae, PPV). To identify potential vectors, we described the aphid species communities and the seasonal dynamics of the dominant aphid species within Pennsylvania peach orchards. Aphids were trapped weekly in 2002 and 2003 from ...

Population fluctuation and faunal indices of aphids (Hemiptera, Aphididae) in peach orchards in Araucária, PR.

Aphids are sap-sucking insects that mainly attack shoots and young leaves of peach trees and many other plant species; however, knowledge of the Brazilian aphid fauna is scant. The objective of this study was to identify aphid species collected in peach orchards (Prunus persica Batsch) and to determine their faunal indices for occurrence and dominance. The experiment was conducted from July 200...

Are Flowering Plants Taboo in Peach Orchards?

It is generally recommended that broadleaf plants in and around peach orchards must be controlled to minimize damage from stink bugs (Pentatomidae) and plant bugs (Lygus spp.). In research orchards located in West Virginia, USA, I have been growing peach trees as a monoculture or interplanted with apple, with and without the presence of broadleaf flowering plants. The flowering plants were used...
