Can Diffusion-Weighted Imaging be a Gold Standard Method for Acute Appendicitis? A Comparative Study

چکیده
Background: Diagnosis of an inflamed appendix is commonly based on clinical, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging data. Ultrasonography (US) the leading modality for these patients. However, inconclusive US examination suggests application non-enhanced computed tomography (NECT). Objectives: This study aimed to compare US, NECT, diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance (DW-MRI) examinations accurate diagnosis acute appendicitis with rate proven by surgery. Patients Methods: retrospective was performed 70 patients, diagnosed between February 2018 January 2020. The accuracy CT, DW-MRI examined in relation demographic clinical variables. Results: Age gender were not significantly associated surgically appendicitis. diameter had a significant association All DW-MRI–positive patients abdominal symptoms acute/subacute (even those < 6 mm diameter). Based ROC curve analysis, sensitivity specificity predicting 100% 90.90%, respectively. Conclusion: important factor diagnosing advanced technique that may exclude need measurements.

Acute appendicitis: what is the gold standard of treatment?
McBurney's procedure represented the gold-standard for acute appendicitis until 1981, but nowadays the number of laparoscopic appendectomies has progressively increased since it has been demonstrated to be a safe procedure, with excellent cosmetic results and it also allows a shorter hospitalization, a quicker and less painful postoperative recovery. The aim of this editorial was to perform a r...
متن کاملA Method for Gradient Calibration in Diffusion Weighted Imaging
Introduction. Conventional gradient calibration procedures do not exclude significant bias in the diffusion-weighted (DW) signal during MR experiments. The error, arising from imperfections in the DW gradients, varies among the different gradient directions and exhibits different extent of offsets. We propose a calibration method for DW imaging using a homogeneous water phantom, presuming that ...
متن کاملCan CMR be the new ‘gold standard’ for constrictive pericarditis?
Historically, the cardiac catheterization has been the ‘gold standard’for the evaluation and confirmation of constrictive pericarditis. Noninvasive CMR should have a potential role to be equivalent or even superior given its abiltiy to detect both the anatomic and physiologic impact of an abnormal pericardium. Via RF tissue-tagging, we show that CMR could be a contender for a new non-invasive s...

conclusion these data indicate that while ce-mri will depict more positive results, there are cases in which dwi will show a positive result while ce-mri is negative. we suggest that the combination of these two imaging modalities might yield more positive results in diagnosing acute ms attack giving rise to a more accurate diagnosis. results ce-mri yielded positive results for 61 (87%) patient...
