Calculating and Analyzing Angular Head Jerk in Augmented and Virtual Reality: Effect of AR Cue Design on Angular Jerk

In this work, we propose a convenient method for evaluating levels of angular jerk in augmented reality (AR) and virtual (VR). Jerk is rarely analyzed metric usability studies, although it can be measured calculated easily with most head-worn displays yield highly relevant information to designers. Here, developed implemented system capable calculating analyzing real-time based on orientation data from an off-the-shelf display. An experiment was then carried out determine whether the presence AR user interface annotations results changes users’ head when conducting time-pressured visual search task. Analysis indicates that decrease significantly associated use augmentations. As noted limitations section, however, conclusions drawn work should limited, as analysis novel VR/AR space because methodological limited reliability data.
