Removal of Lead from Aqueous Solutions by Polyacrylic Acid-Bentonite Composite: Batch and Column Studies
Shortage of water resources and deterioration of water quality have urged the need to develop new technologies for the removal of contaminants from water. Heavy metals produced by municipal and industrial activities are among the most toxic contaminants present in the natural and waste waters. Different methods have been developed for the elimination of heavy metals from water resources and ind...
متن کاملAqueous Cadmium Ions Removal by Adsorption on APTMS Grafted Mesoporous Silica MCM-41 in Batch and Fixed Bed Column Processes
Highly ordered mesoporous MCM-41silica with hexagonal structure was synthesized using extracted amorphous silica from sedge (Carex riparia) ash. Obtained mesoporous materials functionalized by 3-(Aminopropyl) trimethoxysilane (APTMS) and their structures characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption-desorption, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Fourier transform infr...
متن کاملBatch Study on COD and Ammonia Nitrogen Removal Using Granular Activated Carbon and Cockle Shells
Landfills generate leachate that contains elevated concentration of contaminants and is hazardous to human health and the ecosystem. In this study, the mixture of granular activated carbon and cockle shells was investigated for remediation of COD and ammonia from stabilized landfill leachate. All adsorbent media were sieved to a particle size between 2.00 and 3.35 mm. The optimum mixing ratio, ...
متن کاملFlow Rate and Interference Studies for Copper Binding to a Silica-Immobilized Humin Polymer Matrix: Column and Batch Experiments
Batch and column experiments were performed to determine the Cu(II) binding capacity of silica-immobilized humin biomass. For column studies, 500 bed volumes of a 0.1 mM Cu(II) solution were passed through humin packed columns at the flow rates of 1, 1.5, 2, and 3 mL/min. The biopolymer showed an average Cu binding capacity of 12 +/- 1.5 mg/g and a Cu recovery of about 96.5 % +/- 1.5. The break...
