C-Reactive Protein: An Inflammatory Biomarker in Clinical Practice
The importance of infl ammation in the etiology of vascular events is becoming more obvious, as a result of both clinical and laboratory studies. C-Reactive Protein (CRP), a nonspecifi c indicator of infl ammation, has emerged as a useful parameter for assessing individual risk of cardiovascular disease and acute events. When added to conventional measurements such as cholesterol fractions (LDL...
متن کاملC-REACTIVE PROTEIN RESPONSE IN ANGINA PECTORIS
C-reactive protein (CRP) response was studied in 44 patients with acute angina pectoris admitted to the coronary care unit. 71 % of patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI)had positive CRP test while 73% of patients presumed to have unstable angina pectoris had negative CRP test. This test can be helpful in differentiating between acute MI and unstable angina pectoris.
متن کاملC-reactive protein beyond biomarker of inflammation in metabolic syndrome.
The metabolic syndrome is characterized by low-grade inflammation. C-reactive protein (CRP), the best characterized biomarker of inflammation, is an independent predictor of future cardiovascular events, and elevated CRP level has also been implicated in the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus, a strong risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Recent reports have provided provocative evidenc...
متن کاملEvaluation of preoperative elevation of serum c-reactive protein as an indicator for prognosis of colorectal cancer
Abstract Background : Cancer has not been elucidated in colerectal site. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a product synthesized in hepatocytes and has been reported to be up-regulated by such proinflammatory cytokines as interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF). The significance of a preoperative serum elevation was evaluated using CRP as a predictive i...
متن کاملMaternal Serum C- Reactive Protein Concentration in Gestational Diabetes
OBJECTIVE: Low-grade systemic inflammation is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. C-Reactive Protein (CRP), an acute phase protein produced by hepatocytes, may be associated with diabetes. This study aimed to compare serum levels of CRP in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), impaired glucose tolerance test and control subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this ca...
