Byzantine Churches in Albania: How Geometry and Architectural Composition Influence the Acoustics

The Byzantine churches built between the 7th and 15th centuries represent an architectural typology that has been developed along with other styles. evolution of interior organization, to be composed only a single nave for oldest architecture then additional lateral naves, is one multiple aspects characterizes this building type, studied mainly from perspective. variety roof morphology, being flat, double slope, vaulted or domed, contributes determining overall acoustics. This paper deals analysis acoustic characteristics related five located in Albania, specifically Berat Cete. A comparison impulse response (IR) measured inside each church was given by analyzing most appropriate parameters line ISO 3382. surveys were undertaken minimal furniture without any audience. results highlight small difficulties terms speech understanding, especially under clarity index found below optimal range limit. shortfall attributed geometry volumes reflecting materials applied surfaces facilitate build-up sound energy.
