Burial depths favor Italian ryegrass persistence in the soil seed bank

چکیده

Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) is a weed broadly found in fields cultivated with wheat and barley crops. Seed inputs into the soil before harvesting winter crops increase seed bank, ensuring survival. This study evaluated persistence of seeds subjected to burial depths over time. Experiments were carried out field for two years randomized block experimental design four repetitions. Dormant harvested from mother-plants put nylon bags containing soil. Previously, viability was 1 % tetrazolium solution, 50 viable by repetition buried at 0.5, 5.0, 10, 20 cm depths. percentage deteriorated remaining seeds, non-dormant abnormal seedlings, non-viable dormant 0, 30, 60, 90, 180, 360, 540, 720 days after (DAB). increased 10 depth compared layers up 5 cm. Moreover, showed lower (10 lower) 0.5 360 DAB. For higher 90 DAB, regardless depth. Dormancy breakage occurred until 180 more rapidly At 540 than 95 unviable, demonstrating short bank.

Seed mass, shape, and persistence in the soil seed bank of Israeli coastal sand dune flora

Question: Are seed mass and shape related to persistence in the soil seed bank among 54 species of the Israeli flora? Search method: Persistence was determined by soil seed bank investigations in which the fraction of non-germinated viable seeds was regarded as the persistent soil seed bank. When seedling emergence had ceased but before new seeds were shed, all soil from the upper 5 cm of 120 q...

Seed bank persistence and climate change

The strong mechanistic relationship between climatic factors and seed dormancy and germination suggests that forecast climatic changes will significantly affect seed bank persistence. This review focuses on the potential impact of changing temperature, rainfall and fire regimes on the longevity of long-term persistent seed-banks. Currently, there are few studies investigating the mechanistic re...

Seed germination response of Haloxylon persicum (Chenopodiaceae) to different hydrothermal conditions and sand burial depths

Daily counts of germinated seeds of white saxaul (Haloxylon persicum) incubated at 35 different hydrothermal environments (10-25?C and 0 to -3 MPa) were carried out under controlled laboratory conditions. The seeds were then buried in sand at 4 different depths in well drained pots constantly moisturized for three weeks. In all these hydrothermal conditions, the courses of germination were comp...

Relative Burial Depths of Nakhlites: an Update

Introduction: Nakhlites are augite-rich cumulate rocks with variable amounts of olivine and groundmass plus minor Fe, Ti oxides [e.g., 1]. Our previous studies revealed that nakhlites showed correlated petrography and mineralogy that could be explained by different locations (burial depths) in a common cooling cumulate pile [e.g., 2]. We so far analyzed six of the seven currently known nakhlite...

Seed bank persistence of genetically modified canola in California.

INTRODUCTION Canola, which is genetically modified (GM) for tolerance to glyphosate, has the potential to become established as a new glyphosate resistant weed, thus reducing the effectiveness of glyphosate. METHODS Volunteer from dormant canola seeds produced thousands of plants per hectare in the fourth year (2011) following a 2007 crop harvest. This occurred with no additional canola seed ...
