Built-Up Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (FRP) Profiles with Improved Shear Performance for FRP–Concrete Hybrid Section

Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP)–concrete hybrid sections, composed of FRP profiles and a concrete slab, have gathered attention in construction due to their lightweight, easy installation, high durability. However, the low shear strength brittle behavior commercially available pultruded often leads failure at load levels. To enhance ductility, this study proposes novel H-shaped profile that is built from two U-shaped hand lay-up sandwiched core multi-directional fibers. Direct tests showed built-up failed pseudo-ductile mode while mode. Built-up had 1.5 times capacity 2.8 ultimate redundancy compared FRP. Additionally, flexural FRP–concrete beams revealed webs higher with smeared cracks.
