Buddha under Control. Buddhism’s Legacy in North Korea

This paper explores the significance of legacy Buddhism in North Korea. Our primary concerns Korean context are twofold: presence culture and role Korea cultural propaganda policy. We argue that religious revival seen from 1970s onwards was part a project created by Workers’ Party had certain political goals. Fieldwork analysis sources revealed state has used to repair country’s international image creating facade freedom promote tourism as policies towards unification. While seemingly peripheral, still relevance at social levels
