Bubble Formation in Magma

چکیده
Volcanic eruptions are driven by bubbles that form when volatile species exsolve from magma. The conditions under which depend mainly on magma composition, concentration, presence of crystals, and decompression rate. These all predicated the mechanism volatiles melt to bubbles. We critically review known or inferred mechanisms bubble formation in magmas: homogeneous nucleation, heterogeneous nucleation crystal surfaces, spontaneous phase separation (spinodal decomposition). propose a general approach for calculating rates as sum contributions suggesting may not be limited single prior eruption. identify three major challenges further experimental, analytical, theoretical work is required permit development model natural eruption conditions. ? summarize various understood operate. Magma mixing enhanced by bubble segregation
In order to explore the materials’ complexity induced by bubbles rising through mixing magmas, bubbleadvection experiments have been performed, employing natural silicate melts at magmatic temperatures. A cylinder of basaltic glass was placed below a cylinder of rhyolitic glass. Upon melting, bubbles formed from interstitial air. During the course of the experimental runs, those bubbles rose vi...
متن کاملBubble formation in organic light-emitting diodes
Bubbles in organic light-emitting diodes can be formed from gas release due to Joule heating effect at localized electrical shorts during operation, which could be simulated by a rapid thermal annealing. The gases in the bubbles consist of not only adsorbed moistures but also the decomposed organic species, which are detected in situ in an ultrahigh vacuum chamber. In the device of Al/tris-~8-h...

متن کاملAir-bubble-triggered drop formation in microfluidics.
In microfluidic devices, droplets are normally formed using T-junction or flow focus mechanisms. While both afford a high degree of control over drop formation, they are limited in maximum production rate by the jetting transition. Here, we introduce a new drop formation mechanism that is not limited by jetting, allowing much faster drop production.
متن کاملBubble formation on a single orifice in a gas solid fluidized bed using digital image analysis
Digital Image Analysis (DIA) has been employed to characterize the time evolution of a bubble injected from a single orifice into a pseudo 2-dimansional gas-solid fluidized bed. The injected bubble diameter increased with the square root of time before detachment. During bubble free flight in the bed, its diameter remains approximately constant. The center of mass of the bubble increases with t...
