Broken Bracelets, Molien Series, Paraffin Wax and an Elliptic Curve of Conductor

This paper introduces the concept of necklace binomial coefficients motivated by the enumeration of a special type of sequences. Several properties of these coefficients are described, including a connection between their roots and an elliptic curve. Further links are given to a physical model from quantum mechanical supersymmetry as well as properties of alkane molecules in chemistry.

Efficient elliptic curve cryptosystems

Elliptic curve cryptosystems (ECC) are new generations of public key cryptosystems that have a smaller key size for the same level of security. The exponentiation on elliptic curve is the most important operation in ECC, so when the ECC is put into practice, the major problem is how to enhance the speed of the exponentiation. It is thus of great interest to develop algorithms for exponentiation...

An Efficient Method For DNA Extraction From Paraffin Wax Embedded Tissues For PCR Amplification Of Human And Viral DNA

Background and Objective: Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues are a valuable source of DNA for molecular studies. We designed and optimized an efficient procedure for DNA extraction from formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissues. Materials and Methods: Seventy three blocks of cervical paraffin-embedded tissues were investigated. DNA was extracted using 45 minutes boiling in alkaline sol...

Further explorations of Boyd's conjectures and a conductor 21 elliptic curve

We prove that the (logarithmic) Mahler measure m(P ) of P (x, y) = x + 1/x + y + 1/y + 3 is equal to the L-value 2L′(E, 0) attached to the elliptic curve E : P (x, y) = 0 of conductor 21. In order to do this we investigate the measure of a more general Laurent polynomial Pa,b,c(x, y) = a ( x + 1 x ) + b ( y + 1 y ) + c and show that the wanted quantity m(P ) is related to a “half-Mahler” measur...
