Broad-Host-Range Plasmid by Electroporation
Methylotrophic bacteria able to grow on one-carbon compounds, such as methanol and monomethylamine, as sole carbon sources have received considerable attention because of their potential commercial applications, including the production of single-cell protein, amino acids, pyrroloquinoline quinone, and poly-3-hydroxybutyrate. The utility of methylotrophs should be increased by the use of recomb...
متن کاملSecondary Particles Produced by Hadron Therapy
Introduction Use of hadron therapy as an advanced radiotherapy technique is increasing. In this method, secondary particles are produced through primary beam interactions with the beam-transport system and the patient’s body. In this study, Monte Carlo simulations were employed to determine the dose of produced secondary particles, particularly neutrons during treatment. Materials and Methods I...
متن کاملAdaptive plasmid evolution results in host-range expansion of a broad-host-range plasmid.
Little is known about the range of hosts in which broad-host-range (BHR) plasmids can persist in the absence of selection for plasmid-encoded traits, and whether this "long-term host range" can evolve over time. Previously, the BHR multidrug resistance plasmid pB10 was shown to be highly unstable in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia P21 and Pseudomonas putida H2. To investigate whether this plasmid ...
متن کاملThe N-terminal domain of Aliivibrio fischeri LuxR is a target of the GroEL chaperonin.
Here we show that the C-terminal domain of LuxR activates the transcription of Aliivibrio fischeri luxICDABEG in Escherichia coli SKB178 gro(+) and E. coli OFB1111 groEL673 strains to the same level. Using affinity chromatography, we showed that GroEL binds to the N-terminal domain of LuxR, pointing to a GroEL/GroES requirement for the folding of the N-terminal domain of LuxR.
متن کاملAnalysis of mutations in trfA, the replication initiation gene of the broad-host-range plasmid RK2.
Plasmids with mutations in trfA, the gene encoding the replication initiation protein of the broad-host-range plasmid RK2, were isolated and characterized. Mutants identified from a nitrosoguanidine bank were defective in supporting the replication of a wild-type RK2 origin in Escherichia coli. Most of the mutations were clustered in a region of trfA corresponding to the carboxy-terminal quarte...
