Bribery, on-the-job training, and firm performance

Abstract The previous literature has extensively examined the effect of firm-level bribery on firm performance but not through on-the-job training. This paper investigates impact paying bribes firm’s investment decisions in training and offers mediating implications corruption performance. We empirically examine relationship between using data from World Bank Enterprise Surveys consisting a sample 94 developing countries with 20,601 firms. findings show that intensity affects real annual sales growth rates negatively positively, respectively. Furthermore, firms exposed to more reduce their intensity. results are robust different classifications size, subsamples, controls for endogeneity bribery.
