چکیده
Abstract A moderately diverse assemblage of brachiopods from the Latham Shale Lagerstätte (Cambrian Series 2, upper Stage 4) and Cadiz Formation (Miaolingian, Wuliuan), California is described in detail for first time. The fauna includes both linguliform rhynchonelliform brachiopods— Hadrotreta primaea (Walcott, 1902), Paterina prospectensis 1884), Dictyonina pannula (White, 1874), Mickwitzia occidens Walcott, 1908; Nisusia fulleri Mount, 1981 Wimanella highlandensis 1886), respectively—together with olenellid trilobites hyolithids. differs other Cambrian Konservat-Lagerstätten (notably 2 Chengjiang Guanshan Lagerstätten, eastern Yunnan) that brachiopod shell valves many cases are still preserved their original mineralization. Moreover, excellently shale-hosted even include exquisite epithelial cell molds, otherwise only seen acid-etched material carbonate rocks. pitted ornamentation D. closely resembles Ordovician linguliforms. unusual preservation N. provides important clues ancestral composition shell. two articulated species probably represent oldest records this group west Laurentia. could also earliest onset transition Evolutionary Fauna (CEF) to Paleozoic (PEF).

Articulated Wiwaxia from the Cambrian Stage 3 Xiaoshiba Lagerstätte
Wiwaxia is a bizarre metazoan that has been interpreted as a primitive mollusc and as a polychaete annelid worm. Extensive material from the Burgess Shale provides a detailed picture of its morphology and ontogeny, but the fossil record outside this lagerstätte is scarce, and complete wiwaxiids are particularly rare. Here we report small articulated specimens of Wiwaxia foliosa sp. nov. from th...
متن کاملPost-metamorphic Allometry in the Earliest Acrotretoid Brachiopods from the Lower Cambrian (series 2) of South China, and Its Implications
The earliest growth of post-metamorphic (postlarval) shells in two species of Eohadrotreta is described from the Cambrian Shuijingtuo Formation of South China. Two different growth patterns can be observed by quantifying developmental variations in size and shape of successive stages of post-metamorphic shell growth (including the pedicle foramen forming stage, pedicle foramen enclosing stage a...
متن کاملControls on Gut Phosphatisation: The Trilobites from the Weeks Formation Lagerstätte (Cambrian; Utah)
Despite being internal organs, digestive structures are frequently preserved in Cambrian Lagerstätten. However, the reasons for their fossilisation and their biological implications remain to be thoroughly explored. This is particularly true with arthropods--typically the most diverse fossilised organisms in Cambrian ecosystems--where digestive structures represent an as-yet underexploited alte...
متن کاملBrachiopods hitching a ride: an early case of commensalism in the middle Cambrian Burgess Shale
Ecological interactions, including symbiotic associations such as mutualism, parasitism and commensalism are crucial factors in generating evolutionary novelties and strategies. Direct examples of species interactions in the fossil record generally involve organisms attached to sessile organisms in an epibiont or macroboring relationship. Here we provide support for an intimate ecological assoc...
متن کاملA predatory bivalved euarthropod from the Cambrian (Stage 3) Xiaoshiba Lagerstätte, South China
Bivalved euarthropods represent a conspicuous component of exceptionally-preserved fossil biotas throughout the Lower Palaeozoic. However, most of these taxa are known from isolated valves, and thus there is a limited understanding of their morphological organization and palaeoecology in the context of early animal-dominated communities. The bivalved euarthropod Clypecaris serrata sp. nov., rec...
