چکیده
One dimensional graphene nanostructures are one of the most promising materials for next generation electronics. Here, chemical vapor depostion growth nanoribbons (GNRs) and nanospears (GNSs) on a copper surface is reported. The GNRs GNSs enabled by vapor–liquid–solid (VLS) mechanism guided on-surface propagation liquid Cu-Si catalyst particle. slow lateral fast VLS vertical give rise to spear head-shaped GNSs. In situ observations further confirm that can be completely suppressed thus grown. synthesized field effect transistor (FET) devices show have high carrier mobilities ≈2000 cm2 V−1 s−1. Both FET Kelvin probe force microscopy measurements Fermi levels synthesize shift downward from wide part tip strongly p-doped. These findings yield key insights into open door achieving facile scalable method synthesizing free standing their applications, such as Fermi-level tunable devices.

Growth of carbon nanotubes via twisted graphene nanoribbons
Carbon nanotubes have long been described as rolled-up graphene sheets. It is only fairly recently observed that longitudinal cleavage of carbon nanotubes, using chemical, catalytical and electrical approaches, unzips them into thin graphene strips of various widths, the so-called graphene nanoribbons. In contrast, rolling up these flimsy ribbons into tubes in a real experiment has not been pos...

Graphene can be transformed from a semimetal into a semiconductor if it is confined into nanoribbons narrower than 10 nm with controlled crystallographic orientation and well-defined armchair edges. However, the scalable synthesis of nanoribbons with this precision directly on insulating or semiconducting substrates has not been possible. Here we demonstrate the synthesis of graphene nanoribbon...
متن کاملSubstrate-Independent Growth of Atomically Precise Chiral Graphene Nanoribbons
Contributing to the need for new graphene nanoribbon (GNR) structures that can be synthesized with atomic precision, we have designed a reactant that renders chiral (3,1)-GNRs after a multistep reaction including Ullmann coupling and cyclodehydrogenation. The nanoribbon synthesis has been successfully proven on different coinage metals, and the formation process, together with the fingerprints ...
متن کاملScalable templated growth of graphene nanoribbons on SiC.
In spite of its excellent electronic properties, the use of graphene in field-effect transistors is not practical at room temperature without modification of its intrinsically semimetallic nature to introduce a bandgap. Quantum confinement effects can create a bandgap in graphene nanoribbons, but existing nanoribbon fabrication methods are slow and often produce disordered edges that compromise...
متن کاملDirect growth of graphene nanoribbons for large-scale device fabrication.
Graphene being a zero band gap material hinders the use of its intrinsic form for many applications requiring a moderate band gap, such as field effect transistors and optoelectronic devices. Here we demonstrate a scalable method based on chemical vapor deposition for the direct growth of well-registered graphene nanoribbons on SiO(2) substrates with precise control over their width, length, an...
