Boosting the interlayer-confined nitrate reduction reaction by in situ electrochemical potassium ion intercalation

چکیده

Electrochemically converting nitrate ions back to valuable ammonia (NH3) represents a sustainable alternative the traditional Haber-Bosch process. However, NH3 electrosynthesis is currently restricted by low catalytic activities and Faradaic efficiency (FE) of NO3−-to-NH3. Here we report an interlayer-confined reduction reaction (NTRR) in two-dimensional layered structure. The results indicate that situ electrochemical K+ intercalation expands interlayer spacing, which triggers NTRR between layers. obtained α-Ni0.902Cu0.098(OH)2 ultrathin nanosheets deliver high performance with yield rate 13.4 mol gcat.−1 h−1 NO3−-to-NH3 FE 98.9% at −0.6 V, far exceeding those Cu-based electrocatalysts. Moreover, catalyst exhibits good cycling stability, can sustain 20 successive cycles without obvious decay activity FE. Meanwhile, Raman spectroscopy unravel pathway.

Mechanism of potassium ion intercalation staging in few layered graphene from in situ Raman spectroscopy.

Recently emerging potassium ion (K-ion) batteries offer a lower-cost alternative to lithium-ion batteries while enabling comparably high storage capacity. Here, we leverage the strong Raman spectroscopic response of few-layered graphene to provide the first insight into the electrochemical staging sequence for K+ ions in graphitic carbons. Our analysis reveals the signature of a dilute stage I ...

Controlled electrochemical intercalation, exfoliation and in situ nitrogen doping of graphite in nitrate-based protic ionic liquids.

Few-layer nitrogen-doped graphene has been prepared via fast and controlled electrochemical exfoliation of graphite in a protic ionic liquid ethylammonium nitrate. The method presents a potentially scalable approach for preparation of metal-free, N-doped graphene for use as electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reactions.

Mixing Acid Salts and Layered Double Hydroxides in Nanoscale under Solid Condition

The immobilization of potassium sorbate, potassium aspartate and sorbic acid in layered double hydroxide under solid condition was examined. By simply mixing two solids, immobilization of sorbate and aspartate in the interlayer space of nitrate-type layered double hydroxide, so called intercalation reaction, was achieved, and the uptakes, that is, the amount of immobilized salts and the interla...
