Blood Pressure and anthropometry obesity indices in first professional medical students at a private medical college of Pakistan-a cross-sectional study

Obesity, a significant public health issue, requires immediate attention to prevent obesity-mediated concerns such as hypertension, metabolic syndrome, and adverse coronary circulatory events. The present study aimed determine blood pressure (BP) anthropometric obesity indices (including BMI, waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, mid-upper arm circumference) of 1st Professional MBBS students in private medical college Pakistan, also find the association BP with indices. It was cross-sectional survey conducted at Lahore Medical Dental College. Institutional Review Board approval acquired before commencement. duration from May August 2022. population included all registered first-year who agreed participate study. 120 participants. mean ± standard deviation (SD) age participants 19.05±0.82 years. Mean systolic diastolic 116.05±13.21 74.85±9.81 respectively. Sixty-seven (56%) were having their ≥ 120/80 identified pre-hypertensive or hypertensive SD BMI 22.18±4.31 kg/m2; 67 (55.8%) normal 20(16.7%) overweight 33 (27.5%) obese. On basis circumference; 39 (70.9%) male subjects 16 (29.1%) centrally obese, whereas 47 (72.3%) females 18 (23.7%) Overall central obese 35 (29%). Logistic regression analysis applied; hypertension taken dependent variable all-other independent covariates anthropometry (BMI, circumference), gender, age, residential status controlled; gender (p=0.001) circumference (p=0.000). Students need modify lifestyle strategies for preventing hypertension.
