Blockage Probability Modeling of Large Wood at Reservoir Spillways With Piers

Large wood increases the morphological and hydraulic complexity of rivers, yet it may block modify flood discharge capacity structures. To assess related risk, blockage probability estimation for structures such as reservoir spillways is needed. This work presents unstudied parameters large with a reservoir-type approach flow, where inflow velocity has negligible magnitude. Experiments were conducted in channel an ogee crested spillway equipped piers, representing commonly used structure. Artificial stems to systematically evaluate influence stem length draft on blocking process. Different conditions evaluated by changing water level reservoir. The head at crest respect was found be key parameter spillway. Additionally, bay width blockage. Larger heads tend reduce wood, given draft, while increasing relative tends increase probability. A logistic regression model provided estimate piers. Finally, recommendations engineering practice are presented.
