چکیده
Nickel hyperaccumulation in Blepharidium guatemalense Standl. (Rubiaceae) was found the tropical forests of south-eastern Mexico. This study aimed to document geographic extent nickel this species, understand its process and explore distribution within tissues plant. To accomplish these objectives, a complete non-destructive elemental screening herbarium specimens performed with hand-held X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. Besides, rhizosphere soils plant were collected Mexico analyzed for physical–chemical parameters. Finally, maps other elements obtained by spectroscopy microscopy. revealed that is distributed throughout Chiapas, Tabasco Campeche, reaching maximum concentration leaves (4.3 wt%) followed roots seeds (2.0 bark (1.8 wt%). Simultaneous cobalt 15% specimens. has uncommon re-distribution mechanisms via phloem since tissue highest nickel-enriched from all parts (from leaves). A high total (mean 610 µg g−1) even though no evidence ophiolite emplacement area been reported. represents first hypernickelophore (> 1 wt% Ni) be reported as growing are neither ultramafic nor enriched anthropogenic pollutants.

Nickel levels in arthropods associated with Ni hyperaccumulator plants from an ultramafic site in New Caledonia
Arthropods (mainly insects) were collected from a forest site that contained at least six species of Ni hyperaccumulators. Whole body Ni analysis was performed for 12 arthropod taxa, two of which were studied at different life cycle stages. We found two Nitolerant insects. The pentatomid heteropteran Utana viridipuncta, feeding on fruits of the Ni hyperaccumulator Hybanthus austrocaledonicus, c...
متن کاملAspects of Chemical Composition of Exodermal Cell Walls in Roots of Ni-Hyperaccumulating and Non-Hyperaccumulating Genotypes of Senecio coronatus
Hyperaccumulation is an unusual plant response to metaliferous soils. Such soils like those derived from ultramafic rocks, have elevated concentrations of heavy metals, mainly Ni, Cr, Zn and Cd. Most plants growing on these soils exclude metals from their shoots as excessive accumulation of heavy metals is toxic to the majority of plants. However, about 2% of plants growing on metaliferous soil...
متن کاملSebertia acuminata: A Hyperaccumulator of Nickel from New Caledonia.
Sebertia acuminata (Sapotaceae) from New Caledonia has been shown to be a hyperaccumulator of nickel. The nickel content of the latex (25.74 percent on a dry weight basis) is easily the highest nickel concentration ever found in living material. The nickel is in the form of a low-molecular-weight, water-soluble organic complex.
متن کاملHigh-nickel insects and nickel hyperaccumulator plants: A review
Insects can vary greatly in whole-body elemental concentrations. Recent investigations of insects associated with Ni hyperaccumulator plants have identified insects with relatively elevated whole-body Ni levels. Evaluation of the limited data available indicates that a whole-body Ni concentration of 500 g Ni/g is exceptional: I propose that an insect species with a mean value of 500 g Ni/g or g...
متن کاملSubcellular localization and speciation of nickel in hyperaccumulator and non-accumulator Thlaspi species.
The ability of Thlaspi goesingense Hálácsy to hyperaccumulate Ni appears to be governed by its extraordinary degree of Ni tolerance. However, the physiological basis of this tolerance mechanism is unknown. We have investigated the role of vacuolar compartmentalization and chelation in this Ni tolerance. A direct comparison of Ni contents of vacuoles from leaves of T. goesingense and from the no...
