Bleaching cotton in textile conservation: a closer look using atomic force microscopy

چکیده

Abstract Aqueous bleaching may be used in textile conservation to improve the appearance of historic and culturally significant textiles. It is generally accepted amongst conservators that imparts damage. The aim this research characterise condition cotton fibre's surface pre- post-bleaching using atomic force microscopy (AFM). Unprocessed calico (‘raw’ cotton), scoured cotton, a dress shirt ( circa. 1920) were bleached three separate methods: NaBH 4 for 15 min; H 2 O /NaBO 3 1 h; buffered pH 8.4 h. Atomic Force Microscopy Application in Biological Research: A Review Study

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is a three-dimensional topographic technique with a high atomic resolution to measure surface roughness. AFM is a kind of scanning probe microscope, and its near-field technique is based on the interaction between a sharp tip and the atoms of the sample surface. There are several methods and many ways to modify the tip of the AFM to investigate surface properties, ...

Atomic Force Microscopy: A New Look at Pathogens

Microbial cells are highly complex and heterogeneous systems. In general, cell populations contain subgroups of cells which exhibit differences in growth rate as well as resistance to stress and drug treatment [1]. In addition, individual cells are spatially organized and heterogeneous, and this cellular heterogeneity is used to perform key functions [2]. This complexity emphasizes the need for...

Robust atomic force microscopy using multiple sensors.

Atomic force microscopy typically relies on high-resolution high-bandwidth cantilever deflection measurements based control for imaging and estimating sample topography and properties. More precisely, in amplitude-modulation atomic force microscopy (AM-AFM), the control effort that regulates deflection amplitude is used as an estimate of sample topography; similarly, contact-mode AFM uses regul...
