Bisphenol A as degradation product of monomers used in resin-based dental materials

چکیده

There is still much debate about the release of bisphenol-A (BPA) from dental materials. Therefore, this study aimed to quantify BPA present as an impurity in both BPA-based and non-BPA-based monomers evaluate whether these may degrade upon salivary, bacterial, chemical challenges. was determined three different amounts (1, 2, 3 ?mol) each monomer (TEGDMA, UDMA, mUDMA, BisGMA, BisEMA-3, -6, -10, -30, BisPMA, EBPADMA urethane, BADGE, BisDMA). Next, (3 were immersed whole human pooled saliva collected adults, Streptococcus mutans (2 × 107 CFU/mL), acidic (0.1 M HCl), alkaline NaOH), control media. The amount quantified using a specific highly sensitive UPLC–MS/MS method including derivatization by pyridine-3-sulfonyl chloride. BisGMA BisEMA-3 contained trace (0.0006% 0.0025%, respectively) impurities their synthesis process. concentrations increased when BisEMA-6, BisEMA-10, BisPMA BADGE exposed S. mutans, indicating degradation small into BPA. In addition, degraded under conditions. conversion rate ranged between 0.0003% 0.0025%. Impurities account for resin-based Even though detected due small, manufacturers materials can reduce content only highest purity. Considering overall current trend towards BPA-free materials, it be recommendable investigate non-BPA based used

Bisphenol A in dental materials

What is bisphenol A? Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used primarily for the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Some 3 billion kilos of BPA are produced worldwide and the use of this chemical is so ubiquitous that it has been detected in the urine of 93 per cent of the population over 6 years of age (Welshons et al., 2006; Calafat et al., 2005). A recent study found that BPA ...

Biocompatibility of Resin-based Dental Materials

Oral and mucosal adverse reactions to resin-based dental materials have been reported. Numerous studies have examined the biocompatibility of restorative dental materials and their components, and a wide range of test systems for the evaluation of the biological effects of these materials have been developed. This article reviews the biological aspects of resin-based dental materials and discus...
