Biomineralization of Uranium-Phosphates Fueled by Microbial Degradation of Isosaccharinic Acid (ISA)

چکیده
Geological disposal is the globally preferred long-term solution for higher activity radioactive wastes (HAW) including intermediate level waste (ILW). In a cementitious system, cellulosic items present in ILW may undergo alkaline hydrolysis, producing significant quantities of isosaccharinic acid (ISA), chelating agent radionuclides. Although microbial degradation ISA has been demonstrated, its impact upon fate radionuclides geological facility (GDF) topic ongoing research. This study investigates U(VI) pH-neutral, anoxic, enrichment cultures, approaching conditions similar to far field GDF, containing as sole carbon source, and elevated phosphate concentrations, incubated both (i) under fermentation (ii) Fe(III)-reducing conditions. ISA-fermentation experiment, was precipitated insoluble U(VI)-phosphates, whereas conditions, majority uranium reduced U(IV)-phosphates, presumably formed via enzymatic reduction mediated by metal-reducing bacteria, Geobacter species. Overall, this suggests establishment microbially bio-barrier extending into geosphere surrounding GDF possible biobarrier potential evolve response evolution can have controlling on

Uranium phosphate biomineralization by fungi.
Geoactive soil fungi were investigated for phosphatase-mediated uranium precipitation during growth on an organic phosphorus source. Aspergillus niger and Paecilomyces javanicus were grown on modified Czapek-Dox medium amended with glycerol 2-phosphate (G2P) as sole P source and uranium nitrate. Both organisms showed reduced growth on uranium-containing media but were able to extensively precip...
متن کاملMICROBIAL CHAIN DEGRADATION OF CHOLESTEROL BY ARTHROB ACTER SIMPLEX
Because of the importance of microbial metabolites of cholesterol as precursors in the synthesis of steroidal drugs, we decided to study the ability of Arthrobacter simplex to degrade cholesterol. Arthrobacter simplex cleaves the side chain of cholesterol in the presence of 2,2'-dipyridyl and produces 4-androstene-3,17- dione (AD) and androsta- 1,4-diene-3,17-dione(ADD). Two other intermedi...

15 صفحه اولThe effect of isosaccharinic acid (ISA) on the mobilization of metals in municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) dry scrubber residue.
Co-landfilling of incineration ash and cellulose might facilitate the alkaline degradation of cellulose. A major degradation product is isosaccharinic acid (ISA), a complexing agent for metals. The impact of ISA on the mobility of Pb, Zn, Cr, Cu and Cd from a municipal solid waste incineration dry scrubber residue was studied at laboratory using a reduced 2(5-1) factorial design. Factors invest...
متن کاملMicrobial Community Evolution Is Significantly Impacted by the Use of Calcium Isosaccharinic Acid as an Analogue for the Products of Alkaline Cellulose Degradation
Diasteriomeric isosaccharinic acid (ISA) is an important consideration within safety assessments for the disposal of the United Kingdoms' nuclear waste legacy, where it may potentially influence radionuclide migration. Since the intrusion of micro-organisms may occur within a disposal concept, the impact of ISA may be impacted by microbial metabolism. Within the present study we have establishe...
