چکیده
Length-frequency distribution, morphometry, length-weight relationship, relative condition factor and sex ratio of the apple snail Pila globosa (Swainson, 1822) were studied from river Ganga. A total 922 specimens collected during July 2020 to June 2021, ranging 3.53 62.99 g 16.49 59.78 mm (shell length). distribution revealed that more than 50% male female within 35 45 in length only few (1.58%) observed higher (>55 mm). Females have significantly longer shells are heavier males. Shell has strongest correlation with shell width (r=0.974) least penultimate whorl (r=0.855). Length-weight indicated species negative allometric growth (b<3). The was 1.07 for males, 1.00 females 1.01 pooled data. Sex (M:F) statistically deviated hypothetical 1:1, indicating a heterogeneous population (1:1.9, p<0.05). Keywords: Ganga River, Growth pattern, morphology, Snail

Storage excretion in the Indian apple snail, Pila globosa (Swainson), during aestivation.
Uric acid accumulates in several tissues of the Indian apple snail, P. globosa, during aestivation. This accumulation is particularly high in the foot muscle and reproductive organs. Since the kidney, a tiny organ in the snail, has only a limited capacity to store uric acid, extrarenal tissues are used as storage depots of uric acid during aestivation. It is suggested that the aestivating snail...
متن کاملInduced Breeding of Pila globosa (Swainson 1822) (Gastropoda: Prosobranchia) for Commercial Farming
Studies were made on the number of egg clutch, copulating pairs, duration of mating, duration of egg laying, and weight of egg clutch of Pila globosa by inducing it with Pituitary Gland (PG) and Optic Tentacle cut (OT) under laboratory condition. The effect of inducing the animal with PG and OT cut showed that it resulted in an increase in the number of egg clutch in comparison with that of the...

The physico-chemical characteristics, lipids, protein, fat, moisture and ash of P. globosa and L.luteola were studied. The percentage of oil content found were 2.30 ± 0.29 and 1.61 ± 0.12 in meat of P. globosa and L. luteola. The protein and fat content of P. globosa were 33.81% and 1.80% whereas 22.71% and 1.49% in L. luteola. The moisture content were 75.31% and 78.96% in P. globosa and L. lu...
