چکیده
Abstract In surgical refractive interventions over-correction or under-correction still occur in 10-15 % of cases. Improved outcomes could be achieved by incorporating patient-specific corneal biomechanics into planning. As a first step, this study mechanically characterizes and numerically simulates lenticules harvested during intervention called Corneal Lenticule Extraction for Advanced Refractive Correction (CLEAR). These human were tested uniaxial extension nasal-temporal 45 deg orientations. An HGO material model that accounts the unique collagen arrangement cornea was developed used to identify parameters using finite element experimental setup. The best represent force/displacement obtained parameter estimation Bayesian optimization. experiments performed on 3 patients did not show distinctive differences orientation. estimated fit well with data, representing promising model. future, Brillouin measurements will CLEAR before lenticule extraction so can vivo, providing surgeon patient specific-surgical planning tool.

Decellularization of human stromal refractive lenticules for corneal tissue engineering
Small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) becomes a procedure to correct myopia. The extracted lenticule can be used for other clinical scenarios. To prepare for allogeneic implantation, lenticule decellularization with preserved optical property, stromal architecture and chemistry would be necessary. We evaluated different methods to decellularize thin human corneal stromal lenticules create...

PURPOSE To investigate the presence of Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) in organ cultured corneas, in lyophilised epikeratophakia lenticules prepared by dry state lathing, and in lenticules subjected to prolonged rehydration in Balanced Salt Solution (BSS). METHODS Twelve lenticules and 3 organ cultured corneas were studied for the presence of HLA-ABC (class I), and HLA-DR, -DQ, and -DP (class ...
متن کاملCharacterization of age-related variation in corneal biomechanical properties.
An experimental study has been conducted to determine the stress-strain behaviour of human corneal tissue and how the behaviour varies with age. Fifty-seven well-preserved ex vivo donor corneas aged between 30 and 99 years were subjected to cycles of posterior pressure up to 60 mm Hg while monitoring their behaviour. The corneas were mechanically clamped along their ring of scleral tissue and k...

PURPOSE To describe the technique of cryopreservation of corneal lenticules extracted after small incision refractive lenticule extraction (ReLEx SMILE) and initial results of femtosecond laser intrastromal lenticular implantation for hyperopia. METHODS Lenticules were collected from patients undergoing ReLEx SMILE for the correction of myopia and subjected to a tissue processing technique an...

Case report of a patient, with a thick cornea, for Fuchs dystrophy in its early stages, yet with preserved corneal transparency (subclinical corneal edema), associated with normal intraocular pressure (IOP) by Goldman applanation tonometry (GAT), which was however, the diagnosis of primary open-angle glaucoma on the basis of structural changes of the optic nerve. The tomographic study showed a ...
