چکیده

Tobacco caterpillar (Spodoptera litura) has damaged in great extent different cultivated crops. Mainly it affects solanaceous It feeds on the leaves of crop and crops seems as is fed by animals. In later stage damages whole plant causing rotting plant. Commercial farmers are normally relying chemical pesticides. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy suggested a best option pest management. Using respective trap major been found most effective method multiple advantages for small-scale farmers. Handpicking can be effectively used fourth fifth instar larva. This systematic review aims to collect general biology tobacco related species well various IPM measures The details biology, ecology, host distribution integrated management reviewed systematically presented section. Reviews were carried out citing journal articles, books, conference proceedings, thesis, reports, books sections etc. useful researchers, academicians extension workers develop an protocol caterpillar.

Spodoptera litura nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV-S) as a component in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of Spodoptera litura (Fab.) on cabbage

Field tests were conducted to evaluate the effect of Spodoptera litura (Fab.) nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPVS) alone and in combination with endosulfan and neemarin (neem seed kernel extract) against S. litura in cabbage. Treatment with NPV-S (500 LE/ha) + Endosulfan (625 ml/ha) was better in reducing the larval population and increasing yield than other treatments. However, considering cost b...

Impact of Elevated CO2 on Tobacco Caterpillar, Spodoptera litura on Peanut, Arachis hypogea

If the carbon dioxide (CO(2)) concentration in the atmosphere changes in the future, as predicted, it could influence crops and insect pests. The growth and development of the tobacco caterpillar, Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) (Noctuidae: Lepidoptera), reared on peanut (Arachis hypogea L.) foliage grown under elevated CO(2) (550 ppm and 700 ppm) concentrations in open top chambers at Central Re...

Potential of Trap Crops for Integrated Management of the Tropical Armyworm, Spodoptera litura in Tobacco

The tropical armyworm, Spodoptera litura (F.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is an important pest of tobacco, Nicotiana tabacum L. (Solanales: Solanaceae), in South China that is becoming increasingly resistant to pesticides. Six potential trap crops were evaluated to control S. litura on tobacco. Castor bean, Ricinus communis L. (Malpighiales: Euphorbiaceae), and taro, Colocasia esculenta (L.) Scho...

Effect on biology of jute indigo caterpillar, Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) under five different constant temperatures

Effect of six constant temperatures viz., 18±1 °C, 21±1 °C, 24±1 °C, 27±1 °C, 30±1 °C and 33±1 °C on growth, development and survival of Spodoptera litura (Fabricius). Development rate of egg, larvae, pupae and adult gradually increased with increase in temperature, while the total development period decreased. The total life span of the insect decreased from 64.19±2.86 days at 18±1 °C to 27.18...

Enhancing the efficacy and persistency of Spodoptera litura (Fab.) nuclear polyhedrosis virus using UV irradiation protectants.

To enhance the field persistency of S. litura nuclear polyhedrosis virus (SLNPV), three chemicals viz. cupric ammonium nitrate, tinopal and cupric sulphate were tried as protectants (0.01 mg/ml) against natural sunlight (UV) irradiation. On exposure for 8 hr and subsequent bioassaying (diet surface treatment), it was found that cupric sulphate protected the polyhedrosis inclusion bodies (PIBs),...
