چکیده
Empty fruit bunch, a significant by-product of the palm oil industry, represents tremendous and hitherto neglected renewable energy resource for many countries in South East Asia Sub-Saharan Africa. The design simulation plant producing pure hydrogen through autothermal reforming (ATR) empty bunch (PEFB) was carried out based on successful laboratory experiments core process. bio-oil feed to ATR stage represented by surrogate mixture 11 organic compounds shown be main constituents PEFB from previous work, whose combined elemental composition volatility determined as close possible that real bio-oil. confirmed H2 yields equilibrium predictions were achievable using an in-house synthetised Rh-Al2O3 catalyst packed bed reactor. Initial sensitivity analysis revealed molar steam carbon ratio should not exceed 3 optimal production plant. An overall efficiency 39.4% obtained initial design, this value improved 67.5% applying pinch enhance integration heat design. proposed renders CO2 savings about 0.56 kg per raw processed. accompanying experimental studies together make strong case possibility polygeneration H2, heat, power otherwise discarded agricultural waste.

Conversion of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch to Biofuels
Crude palm oil production is reaching 48.99 million metric tonnes per year globally in 2011 and Southeast Asia is the main contributor, with Indonesia accounting for 48.79%, Malaysia 36.75%, and Thailand 2.96% (Palm Oil Refiners Association of Malaysia, 2011). Oil palm is a multi-purpose plantation and it is also an intensive producer of biomass. Accompanying the production of one kg of palm oi...
متن کاملBasic Properties of Oven–Heat Treated Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Stalk Fibers
The fibers of oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) stalks were investigated to determine the changes in their basic properties after oven-heat treatment. The oven-heat treatment was conducted at 100 °C or 190 °C for 15 min. There were slightly noticeable morphological, chemical, and thermal alterations in oven-heat treated OPEFB stalk fibers for short duration. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) ...
متن کاملSynthesis and Characterization of Cellulose Acetate from TCF Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Pulp
Cellulose acetate (CA) was successfully synthesized by the acetylation of TCF cellulose pulp from oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) at room temperature, using acetic anhydride as the acetylating agent and acetic acid as the solvent in the presence of sulfuric acid/sodium bisulfate as catalysts. Degree of substitution (DS) was controlled by the variables of acetylation time and acetic anhydri...
متن کاملMicrocrystalline Cellulose (MCC) From Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) Fiber via Simultaneous Ultrasonic and Alkali Treatment
In this study, microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was extracted from oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) cellulose which was earlier isolated from oil palm EFB fibre. In order to isolate the cellulose, the chlorination method was carried out. Then, the MCC was prepared by simultaneous ultrasonic and alkali treatment from the isolated α-cellulose. Based on mass balance calculation, the yields for MCC...
متن کاملPretreatment of empty palm fruit bunch for production of chemicals via catalytic pyrolysis Abstract The effect of chemical pretreatments using NaOH, H2O2, and Ca(OH)2 on Empty Palm Fruit Bunches (EPFB) to degrade EPFB lignin before pyrolyis
The effect of chemical pretreatments using NaOH, H2O2, and Ca(OH)2 on Empty Palm Fruit Bunches (EPFB) to degrade EPFB lignin before pyrolyis was investigated. Spectrophotometer analysis proved consecutive addition of NaOH and H2O2 decomposed almost 100% of EPFB lignin compared to 44% for the Ca(OH)2, H2O2 system while NaOH and Ca(OH)2 used exclusively could not alter lignin much. Next, the pret...
