Biogeography of rodents in Iran: species richness, elevational distribution and their environmental correlates

چکیده
Abstract Rodent biogeographic studies are disproportionately scarce in Iran, however, they an ideal system to understand drivers of biodiversity distributions the country. The aims present research determine (i) pattern rodent richness across country, (ii) quantify their elevational distribution patterns, and (iii) explore underlying mechanisms. To reach these goals, updated species list was compiled based on latest taxonomic revisions, published until December 2021. We mapped all 76 develop first map Iran. furthermore investigated patterns following four geographic regions 100 m intervals; Zagros Mountains, north Alborz south Kopet-Dagh mountains, central east mountains. North-east northwestern Iran showed highest were identified as hotspots rodents This study highlights importance past climate change key driver that rodents’ differ among regions. Areas zones with should be prioritized for conservation planning

Elevational Gradients in Species Richness
The abiotic and biotic gradients on mountains have enormous potential to improve our understanding of species distributions, species richness patterns and conservation. Here we describe how abiotic factors change with elevation, how flora and fauna respond to these changes and how elevational species richness patterns have been studied to uncover drivers of biodiversity. There are four main tre...
متن کاملGeographical Gradients in Argentinean Terrestrial Mammal Species Richness and Their Environmental Correlates
We analysed the main geographical trends of terrestrial mammal species richness (SR) in Argentina, assessing how broad-scale environmental variation (defined by climatic and topographic variables) and the spatial form of the country (defined by spatial filters based on spatial eigenvector mapping (SEVM)) influence the kinds and the numbers of mammal species along these geographical trends. We a...
متن کاملHistorical biogeography, ecology and species richness.
Ecology and historical (phylogeny-based) biogeography have much to offer one another, but exchanges between these fields have been limited. Historical biogeography has become narrowly focused on using phylogenies to discover the history of geological connections among regions. Conversely, ecologists often ignore historical biogeography, even when its input can be crucial. Both historical biogeo...
متن کاملEnvironmental correlates for tree occurrences, species distribution and richness on a high-elevation tropical island
High-elevation tropical islands are ideally suited for examining the factors that determine species distribution, given the complex topographies and climatic gradients that create a wide variety of habitats within relatively small areas. New Caledonia, a megadiverse Pacific archipelago, has long focussed the attention of botanists working on the spatial and environmental ranges of specific grou...
