Biofilms of Campylobacter concisus: a potential survival mechanism in the oral cavity

چکیده

Campylobacter concisus, a member of the human’s oral microflora, is Gram-negative, fastidious, microaerophilic bacterium. However, it debatable whether should be recognised as commensal human cavity, or an opportunistic pathogen has been linked to and gastrointestinal infections. But there no doubt that its biofilm-forming capacity enhanced survival mechanism pathogen. Hence, through our investigation assess C. concisus biofilms, we believe strategy in cavity by being protected biofilm environment with other microbes. Our hypothesis supported findings isolates this bacterium possess significantly higher forming capability than those isolated from tract.

Lectin typing of Campylobacter concisus.

A total of 44 clinical isolates and the type strain of the putative pathogen Campylobacter concisus were grouped based on their reactions with plant lectins. The optimized lectin typing system used C. concisus strains proteolytically pretreated and subsequently typed by using a panel of four lectins. The system grouped all 45 strains into 13 lectin reaction patterns, leaving no strain untypeabl...

Neutrophil activation by Campylobacter concisus

BACKGROUND Campylobacter concisus is an emerging enteric pathogen associated with prolonged diarrhoea and possibly inflammatory bowel disease in children as well as adults, but the interaction with cells of the innate immune system is unclear. The magnitude of systemic immunoglobulin response in acute infection is unknown. METHODS Neutrophils from healthy volunteers were activated with five f...

The role of autophagy in the intracellular survival of Campylobacter concisus

Campylobacter concisus is an emerging pathogen that has been associated with gastrointestinal diseases. Given the importance of autophagy for the elimination of intracellular bacteria and the subversion of this process by pathogenic bacteria, we investigated the role of autophagy in C. concisus intracellular survival. Gentamicin protection assays were employed to assess intracellular levels of ...

Investigation of the Enteric Pathogenic Potential of Oral Campylobacter concisus Strains Isolated from Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

BACKGROUND Campylobacter concisus, a bacterium colonizing the human oral cavity, has been shown to be associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This study investigated if patients with IBD are colonized with specific oral C. concisus strains that have potential to cause enteric diseases. METHODOLOGY Seventy oral and enteric C. concisus isolates obtained from eight patients with IBD an...
