چکیده
Red rot disease caused by Colletotrichum falcatum is a major production threat to several sugarcane varieties in Thailand. Biological control an ecologically friendly alternative manage the using microbial antagonism and associated metabolic products. In this study, four Aspergillus non-toxigenic strains (A37, A374, A400, A561) were characterized genetic approach evaluated for their antagonistic potential suppress growth of C. falcatum. The strain A561 had maximum number gene deletions, with 12 afl atoxin-producing genes being lost. addition, characteristic was confi rmed atoxin B1 (AFB1) enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. reduced concentration AFB1 98.57% (1.63 μg/kg) relative toxigenic control. activity against competition plate method on potato dextrose agar (PDA) vitro. results revealed that inhibited mycelial 34.39%. 10% (v/v) culture fi ltrate PDA produced inhibition 53.21%. Non-toxigenic antifungal potential, suppressing

Draft Genome Sequence of Colletotrichum falcatum - A Prelude on Screening of Red Rot Pathogen in Sugarcane
Colletotrichum falcatum, a concealed fungal ascomycete causes red rot, which is a serious disease in sugarcane. It infects economically important stalk tissues, considered as store house of sugar in sugarcane. The study is to find genetic complexities of C. falcatum in establishing this as a stalk infecting pathogen and to decipher the unique lifestyle of this pathogen using NGS technology. We ...
متن کاملPotentiality of Native Pseudomonas spp. in Promoting Sugarcane Seedling Growth and Red Rot (Colletotrichum falcatum went) Management
Sugarcane is an important cash crop grown in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. India is the second largest producer of sugar after Brazil and accounts for 16 per cent of world production (GOI, 2015). In Andhra Pradesh, sugarcane is grown in 1.39 lakh hectares with a production of 99.8 lakh tones. However, the sugarcane productivity (71 tonnes/ha) is very low compared to states lik...
متن کاملRed rot resistant transgenic sugarcane developed through expression of β-1,3-glucanase gene
Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) is a commercially important crop, vulnerable to fungal disease red rot caused by Colletotrichum falcatum Went. The pathogen attacks sucrose accumulating parenchyma cells of cane stalk leading to severe losses in cane yield and sugar recovery. We report development of red rot resistant transgenic sugarcane through expression of β-1,3-glucanase gene from Trichoderma spp...
متن کاملThe Sugarcane Defense Protein SUGARWIN2 Causes Cell Death in Colletotrichum falcatum but Not in Non-Pathogenic Fungi
Plants respond to pathogens and insect attacks by inducing and accumulating a large set of defense-related proteins. Two homologues of a barley wound-inducible protein (BARWIN) have been characterized in sugarcane, SUGARWIN1 and SUGARWIN2 (sugarcane wound-inducible proteins). Induction of SUGARWINs occurs in response to Diatraea saccharalis damage but not to pathogen infection. In addition, the...
متن کاملA Review on Red Rot: The “Cancer” of Sugarcane
Saccharum spp. (Sugarcane) is an important cash crop cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. It is valuable mainly because of its ability to store high concentrations of sucrose, or sugar, in the stem and more recently for the production of ethanol, which is an important renewable biofuel source [1,2]. Globally, sugarcane is an important source of commercial sugar accountin...
