Bioactive diterpenoids impact the composition of the root-associated microbiome in maize (Zea mays)

چکیده

Abstract Plants deploy both primary and species-specific, specialized metabolites to communicate with other organisms adapt environmental challenges, including interactions soil-dwelling microbial communities. However, the role of in modulating plant-microbiome often remains elusive. In this study, we report that maize ( Zea mays ) diterpenoid known antifungal bioactivities also influence rhizosphere bacterial Metabolite profiling showed dolabralexins, antibiotic diterpenoids are highly abundant roots some varieties, can be exuded from roots. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequencing determined community composition mutant Zman2 anther ear 2 ), which is deficient dolabralexins closely related bioactive kauralexin diterpenoids. The microbiome differed significantly wild-type sibling most significant changes observed for Alphaproteobacteria order Sphingomonadales. Metabolomics analyses support these differences attributed deficiency mutant, rather than large-scale metabolome alterations. Together, findings physiological functions beyond chemical defenses, assembly microbiome.

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Epistasis in Maize (zea Mays

ISHER (1918) provided a framework for the characterization of genotypic variance whereby he partitioned it into three components: ( 1 ) a portion associated with the average effects of genes, (2) a portion associated with dominance effects (allelic interactions) of genes, and (3) a portion associated with epistatic effects (nonallelic interactions) of genes. A logical method for the further sub...

Sloughing of root cap cells decreases the frictional resistance to maize (Zea mays L.) root growth

Root caps provide a protective layer in front of the meristem that protects the meristem from abrasion by soil particles. The continuous production and sloughing of the root cap cells may be an adaptation to decrease the friction at the soil-root interface by acting as a low-friction lining to the channel formed by the root. Experiments were performed which provide the first direct evidence tha...
