BIM-Based Checking Method for the Mass Timber Industry

Since the 1990s, mass timber constructions have become more and popular. This type of construction has characteristics that are ideal for incorporating building information modeling (BIM). A structure implies offsite prefabrication at factory, which generates specificities. Although digitalization BIM becoming common, some studies focused on construction, none them focus model checking construction. In projects, there is still no general method synthesizes possibilities offered by BIM-based in general, research conformity models particular almost non-existent. Our objective to provide a step-by-step summarizing process compliance study with dedicated tools. To conduct this work, we first solidified our understanding problem interviewing professionals from industry. Next, developed iteratively, supported tools, then validated it three model-checking case studies. consists five steps: specifications, digital environment implementation, requirement deciphering, calculation, results’ analysis. We applied The results mixed: audits were successful, while others not, because barriers auditing encountered (missing information, impossible interpretation data properties, etc.). obstacles show that, be efficient, must conducted high-quality models, not often real-life situations.
