Using Linguistic Hedges in L-rough Concept Analysis

We enrich concept-forming operators in L-rough Concept Analysis with linguistic hedges which model semantics of logical connectives ‘very’ and ‘slightly’. Using hedges as parameters for the concept-forming operators we are allowed to modify our uncertainty when forming concepts. As a consequence, by selection of these hedges we can control the size of concept lattice.

Galois Connections with Hedges

We introduce (fuzzy) Galois connections with hedges. Fuzzy Galois connections are basic structures behind so-called formal concept analysis of data with fuzzy attributes. Introducing hedges to Galois connections means introducing two parameters. The parameters influence the size of the set of all the fixpoints of a Galois connection. In the sense of formal concept analysis, the fixpoints, calle...

Using Hedges to Classify Citations in Scientific Articles

Citations in scientific writing fulfil an important role in creating relationships among mutually relevant articles within a research field. These inter-article relationships reinforce the argumentation structure intrinsic to all scientific writing. Therefore, determining the nature of the exact relationship between a citing and cited paper requires an understanding of the rhetorical relations ...

Linguistic Logics with Hedges

Human knowledge is commonly expressed linguistically, i.e., truth of vague sentences is given in linguistic terms, and many hedges are often used simultaneously to state different levels of emphasis. In this paper, we propose an axiomatization of mathematical fuzzy logic with many hedges where each hedge does not have any dual one. Then, we present linguistic logics built based on the proposed ...

Learning to Detect Hedges and their Scope Using CRF

Detecting speculative assertions is essential to distinguish the facts from uncertain information for biomedical text. This paper describes a system to detect hedge cues and their scope using CRF model. HCDic feature is presented to improve the system performance of detecting hedge cues on BioScope corpus. The feature can make use of crossdomain resources.
